IT workers

I have been lurking in here for some time now and am shocked at the amount of users mentioning IT industries and work. This freaks me out a little bit since I'm a 10 yoe sysadmin. I feel for you guys, these careers were supposed to take us down a successful path to a better future. I am a little worried for my own job security since it seems our positions are not as secure as we once thought

What are some ways that I personally can keep my job and keep myself relevant but also strategies to stay afloat if the dreaded day of layoffs does come?
