I keep reading that Beckton Gasworks was designed and built by the same (French) firm who built parts of Hue in the 1920s. What is the actual evidence for this beyond the statement?

Full Metal Jacket :FMJposter:

Asking because it has always seemed implausible to me that a French firm would have built such a project in London (in inches, feet and yards?) Francis Edwards has been named online as the architect, but this is surely an error, he died in 1857... The Victorian buildings on the site were designed by John Giles and Lewis Angelli, who did lots of neo-Italianate work in London. There may have been more building on the site in the 1920s (I cannot find evidence of it yet), but the square concrete buildings usually noted and seen in FMJ, seem to me to be more likely to be part of the post WWII development. That phase was designed by T.P. O'Sullivan for Brian Colquhoun and partners and constructed by Taylor Woodrow (see Architects Journal UK, April 27, 1950.) So was it all just a nice publicity stunt, to try to persuade the audience of a similarity? Anyone know?
