When and why did Hungary adopt Eastern naming order, and why isn't this common in other Central and Eastern European countries?

My family is from a country in Asia where Eastern naming order is used (the family name is placed before the personal/first name).

I am aware that Hungary also uses it even though it seems to be geographically isolated from other countries that have adopted this system. For example, Puskás Ferenc (Puskás is the surname) or Szoboszlai Dominik (Szoboszlai is the surname).

When did it adopt this custom and why was this the case?
