Options for moving internationally with a cat
Hello! I am planning to move back to the UK after living in China for quite some time, and I am ofc taking my kitty with me. I essentially have 2 travel options, but i'm not sure which one would be better for her. Her safety is my ultimate concern. Essentially it's between cabin and cargo with some caveats. I would really appreciate advice so I can explore my options.
Option A (cabin + cargo):
Because the city I live in doesn't offer direct flights with pet-approved airlines, I need to take a flight to Shanghai (approx 4 hours) with her in cargo. Then an international flight to France (9 hours) where she can go in the cabin. Then, get the pet passport in France - which may take a couple days - and my family member will pick us up in Calais to drive across the border to the UK.
Option B (just cargo):
Direct flight to UK in Cargo (12 hours). Short drive after (less than 3 hours). Of course the time and steps of this option are far more simple, but I am extremely worried after hearing about horror stories of pets in cargo.
It seems pretty much unavoidable to go in cargo because of China's airline policies for pets. Unfortunately, the only airlines that allow pets in cabin operate out of Beijing and Shanghai, which are at the other end of the country. Looking to explore options / gain insight. Thank you!
