Coming from Veeam and ESXi to Proxmox and PBS, replication to SMB share?

Currently working on a transition plan to move from ESXi and Veeam backup and recovery to Proxmox and PBS, but one thing I can not find a clear answer to is if I can replicate the backup(s) that PBS performs from its host to an SMB network share which will then be replicated to the cloud for storage.

I have seen posts about how to mount an SMB share for PBS, but not how the files are stored etc.
