Moving from SUV to more enjoyable daily

Hi everyone, a bit about the situation: I had to get an SUV for my current job, I landed on a ‘22 VW Tiguan because of the size, styling, and driving dynamics. I can truly say this was the right choice. For what the car is, it’s perfect for me and drives so well. I’d recommend it to anyone looking in this segment. That being said, I just can’t stand driving an SUV. It’s big, top heavy, takes up too much of the road, and it’s just so big and top heavy to reiterate.

Driving is one of my pure pleasures, and being in SoCal there’s so many great roads, and driving and SUV just isn’t a fun or exciting daily for me. I’ll be leaving this job hopefully soon (for other reasons) and I want to make it a full shift where I can get into something I actually want.

Budget: I think I’d be able to sell my Tiggy for 22k-23k+ as it’s been extremely well taken care of, 40k miles, and is a CPO. I don’t want to spend much more than what I sell this car for, I’d be okay going up to $32k.

Wants: Small, four seats, 200-300hp, stylish, comfortable interior. Used up to 30-40k miles with great record. Not against leasing as well but would plan to have this car for a while. Having space is nice but I’m ready to get a roof rack/ box/ bike attachment/ roof tent.

What I’ve had my eye on:

  1. GTI (would be my 3rd VW, I love their products).

  2. Audi A5 45 TFSI Sportback. More space, love the design

  3. Audi Allroad. Most expensive/ hardest to find

  4. BMW 330e/330i. Likely the toughest with space because of trunk configuration.

  5. BMW 430 gran coupe. High depreciation makes these pretty affordable.

  6. Toyed with the idea of a used Macan but I don’t think this would totally rid of the SUV stuff I don’t like. Would be happy to give one a drive.

There’s some cars I know I haven’t even thought of, like a Mazda 3, etc.

Looking for some advice, what other folks in my shoes have done, what to look for.

Thank you!
