In a pickle with old job and new...
Short summary of what's going on... I was with this company for 5 years, very respected and in a key role. A lot of cool opportunities to go to vendor events and visit vendor facilities etc.
The problem was the lack of structure for yearly reviews, and when it came down to it it was always a dollar or two an hour compensation.
So I had an opportunity come up with another company in a similar industry doing similar things. Much smaller company might I add, but was offered more money in the way of hourly, yearly bonus, and opportunity to work on prevailing wage jobs which are usually 2x-3x your regular hourly wage. Now, those aren't steady they are here and there throughout the year.
Fast forward 5 months, my old job has been reaching out asking what it would take to get me to come back. I had a meeting this week with the owner and my old boss and they offered me a management role, a little more money with a quarterly bonus, my seniority and 3 weeks vacation restored.
My dilemma is with the current job and the prevailing wage work mixed in it does boost my salary quite a bit. But that work is a major variable as it can vary throughout the year like I said. I also am working a little further from home every day and with 2 young kids that does kind of weigh on me.
Current job health insurance is a little better than old job as well.
I guess after typing all this out it more or less is about compensation.
