Game Night Suggestions?

So we've been doing game nights, roughly monthly, for a while now. Most of the time they're with free to play games (Such as Duck Duck Goose, Quake Champions, an online poker lobby, and recently PUBG), but I'm curious how others feel.

Should we do two game nights, one for games you would actually have to already own / purchase (Such as CoD, Battlefield 6, or even party games) and one for free games? Should we mix it up and one month do a paid game and one month a free one? How about emulators with online multiplayer support, such as Mario Kart Double Dash or Super Smash Brothers?
