Infosys 3.6 LPA vs Preparing for SSC/Banking – Long Term Stability vs Growth
Hi everyone,
I’m a final-year engineering student and I’m currently facing a career dilemma. I have an offer from Infosys for the role of Software Engineer (3.6 LPA). I may soon receive the official offer letter for training and joining.
I genuinely enjoy coding and the tech ecosystem. I like solving problems and building things. However, I have concerns about long-term stability. With AI advancements, layoffs, and increasing competition in the job market, I sometimes worry about sustainability in the private sector. I am willing to work hard and continuously upskill, but I still question whether I can realistically sustain a corporate tech career into my 40s, especially starting from a service-based company.
On the other hand, I’m considering preparing for government exams like SSC CGL, Banking PO, or Railways — targeting higher-level posts, not Group C/D roles. Government jobs offer stability, predictable income, and lower risk. The work-life balance seems more structured, and job security is strong.
However, growth and salary increments in government roles are slower. With inflation rising and future responsibilities like marriage and family, I’m unsure whether the financial growth will be sufficient long term.
Personally, I live a simple lifestyle. I don’t spend much on parties, trips, or entertainment. My expenses are controlled, and I cook for myself. But I understand life priorities may change after marriage.
So I’m trying to evaluate:
• Long-term sustainability (private tech vs government)
• Growth potential vs stability
• Financial security in 10–20 years
• Risk of AI disruption vs job security
I would really appreciate insights from people who have been in similar situations.
Which path would you choose in today’s environment, and why?
