How do I promote my book?

So, Ive published my book recently and I'm trying to figure out how to promote it. I think the problem is that the genre isn't immediately marketable maybe? Its based in Pakistan in the 80s and covers themes of redemption, loss and obsession. I began writing it when I was experimenting with prose so its meant to read a bit like poetry. I dont exactly know how to get to the audience for it. It does have elements of romance which is the most popular genre, I know. But it needs more patient readers maybe who are looking for a more character driven book. Ive made an instagram page and im trying to grow an audience from there. Sharing writing excerpts to generate interest. Using reels rather than posts. But progress there is slow. Are there steps im supposed to be taking that im missing? A more direct way to find my audience?
