Do you know people who lie on their resume/LinkedIn profile?

I personally know two people who invented entire degrees from universities that I KNOW FOR A FACT they never attended. And these are both relatively successful people who are well established, even near the end, of their careers. Obviously, nobody ever bothered to verify their credentials.

I think about this sometimes because I wonder if I would have gotten further in my career if I had lied on my resume. In my field, though, you have to show university transcripts.

How common do you think this is?
