We went to the Flugwerft Oberschleißheim today. I thought I'd bring along a few devices, maybe there would be something "crackling" there.

And yes, there are some pretty crackling things there. At first, I thought we might be able to get close to some of the flight instruments in one of the historic aircraft there. But unfortunately, anything "cockpit-related" is not accessible...

However, in a few spots, the RC110/KC761C totally "freaked out".... specifically on the jet engines standing around there.

Up to 12-14 µSv/h. The people standing next to us were totally shocked: "What are you measuring there??" - "Radioactivity!" - "WHAT THE F?"
But I immediately said that it's not that bad, that it's just a hobby for my son and me, and that the readings are harmless.

Okay - a flight also has about 2-10 µSv/h, depending on how high you fly, and that's probably also "harmless." Here in a museum like this, you're not standing in front of such an jet engine for an hour either.
But all the children there are touching everything, okay probably also harmless since there's no dust - but one turbine was quite rusty, dust in the form of rust particles could potentially come off..... children's hands.... face/mouth....???

I showed one of the attendants the objects and the readings, "FYI only" - no idea what they'll do with it. Maybe they could have marked it?!?

I'd be interested in your opinion (just regarding the rusty part)...

Otherwise, a successful day. My son had a blast with the RC110 :-D

Oh, and: yes, it was clear that it was Thorium232, the KC761C identified it within minutes... spectrum attached. And of course Thorium and jet engines are a plausible match.
