Shipping my car from LA to New York, open vs enclosed transport, and how do I pick a trustworthy company?

I'm relocating from Los Angeles to New York and I want to ship my car instead of driving it. I've been getting quotes ranging from $900 to $1,800 for the same route which is a massive difference and I don't understand why. Also confused about open vs enclosed car shipping, my car is just a regular 2021 sedan, not a classic or luxury vehicle. Is enclosed worth the extra cost? How do I know if an auto transport company is legitimate before handing over my keys?
