Mental Health Safeguard Board (MHSB)
When Noctis identifies sustained physiological deviation and a clinical follow-up is required, it is important that any resulting patient conversation is conducted with appropriate sensitivity — particularly in individuals who experience anxiety or other mental health vulnerabilities.
Noctis provides contextual monitoring data, not diagnostic conclusions. As such, clinicians are advised to frame discussions in a calm, non-alarmist manner which clearly distinguishes between physiological change and clinical danger.
For example, rather than presenting an alert as an abnormality or cause for concern, clinicians may instead explain that long-term monitoring has identified a change from the individual’s usual baseline. It should be emphasised that variation does not necessarily indicate illness, but may warrant further clinical observation or investigation as a precaution.
This approach helps to reduce the risk of catastrophic interpretation, health-related anxiety, or distress associated with uncertain physiological information. The purpose of follow-up is not to confirm disease, but to maintain awareness and stability over time.
All patient discussions should reinforce that Noctis does not diagnose conditions, and that any review is undertaken solely to support preventative care within existing clinical pathways.
The Mental Health Safeguard Board (MHSB) is an independent protection body within the Noctis governance structure.
Its purpose is not to monitor patients, but to monitor the system itself.
The MHSB protects users from potential psychological harm that could arise from long-term physiological monitoring. This includes preventing unnecessary anxiety, reducing the risk of health-related fear caused by alerts, and ensuring that the language, thresholds, and interface design of Noctis do not unintentionally cause distress.
It specifically safeguards individuals who may be more psychologically vulnerable, including those experiencing periods of impaired decision-making capacity. In such cases, the Board reviews how the system behaves — not the person’s medical data — to ensure Noctis is not contributing to emotional harm.
