IRONMAN videogame should be a Metroidvania
There’s been rumors of an Ironman videogame in development for a longgggg time. But something that always comes to mind with superhero games is “how do we make it stand out from other games?” Basically, how do we not copy the Batman Arkham Trilogy, especially now that Marvel always has with Insomniac’s Spider-Man series.
I propose that, in order to make Ironman stand out when he is a character that could SO easily just be another Arkham style game with his gadgets and armors, instead we make a Metroidvania style game, mixing 3D or 2D shooter gameplay elements, with dungeon crawler map designs, doing a soft adaptation of Armor Wars where Tony’s Ironman tech is stolen and distributed among his enemies and you have to beat your through his rogue gallery to unlock parts and suits, in the same vain as the Megaman games and how you collect skills and abilities by defeating bosses.
You could have Tony explore so many cool locations too, considering that for the large part you’d be going to the villains’ home turf and infiltrating and blasting your way through them. HAMMER Industries, AIM, The Ten Rings HQ, L.A., Stark Campus, Moscow (for his oddly large amount of Russian enemies), Latveria for a Doctor Doom level (I know he isn’t a Tony villain but he works really well when he is) so on and so forth.
A co-op mode could also be implemented where your teammate plays as War Machine, Rescue, or Ironheart, all of which would specialize in different skill sets (Destruction, support, defense respectively.) I could even see a DLC that adds Iron-Spider or Forceworks members like Hawkeye as co-op characters, and also adding short campaigns of like maybe 5 levels that add new parts you can then use in the main campaign in a free play sort of mode.
This is a short and not very in depth pitch but I just think Ironman fits the genre of Metroidvania so well and would stand out a lot more if he stayed out of the gameplay style of the Arkham games.
