Mystery book about a missing boy who is eventually found in an abandoned farm cellar

I read a fiction mystery book once about a missing (kidnapped) boy in a rural community. The boy was eventually found on a farm by shining a flashlight up into the sky from holes in the floorboards of an abandoned farm house.

The owner of the fields sees the light and thinks it’s just teenagers so he yells at them, but only calls the th cops after 2-3 days in a row.

I think the villain or the th kidnapper eventually turns out to be the towns doctor?
