So I was replaying God of War Ragnarök, and something hit me that I swear I’ve never seen anyone point out, the ending literally mirrors GoW3, not just narratively but visually too.

In GoW3, at the end, Kratos has basically destroyed Greece, and there’s a moment where Zeus, looking over the ruins before fighting Kratos, says something like “There will be much to do after I kill you” Except, of course, he never gets the chance, it’s all ruined. And after we kill Zeus we stand in this wide shot that shows this totally destroyed world, gray, broken, and Kratos standing there alone.

Now, fast forward to Ragnarök. At the end, Kratos himself says almost the same thing  “There is much to do. Much to rebuild.”. But now it’s Midgard, the 9 realms are still standing, people are alive. It basically mirrors the shot of God of War 3 with Kratos witnessing the consequences of his destruction, but now he´s witnessing the consequences of his own restraint, of choosing to preserve rather than destroy. The weight on his shoulders is no longer that of guilt for what he destroyed, but of responsibility for what must now be healed, and rebuilt.

It’s insane how the games are basically mirroring each other visually and narratively. GoW3 shows a world ending because of Kratos, Ragnarök shows a world he helped save and now has to protect and rebuild.

I just love this. It’s subtle, visual storytelling at its finest, and I’ve genuinely never seen anyone mention it.

Anyone else notice this parallel?
