Were you sleep trained as a bavy?

Wondering who here was sleep trained and can attest to not being emotionally damaged from it? There's so much chatter online about it being traumatizing and that people don't believe in it anymore, which makes me apprehensive to try it. My LO is just about 4 months old but cosleeps and doesn't have much structure when it comes to his naps - usually contact, in a stroller, etc, not alone in his crib (he simply can't do the crib). I'm looking ahead to 5/6 months to sleep train if I decide to - would love my time back in the evenings and during his naps.

My parents sleep trained me back in the 90s using Ferber - I was 8 months old and had one nightly waking they were trying to eliminate before my mum returned to work, and it took them 3 nights. I definitely don't feel it messed me up and my relationship with my parents is honestly amazing. However I wonder if it would differ for a more difficult baby/sleeping situation like my LO.
