Getting my first tattoo in 3 days, is there any way to make it less painful? (NO NUMBING CREAM)

Yes I know getting a tattoo is going to hurt regardless, but I have quite a low pain tolerance and was wondering if there was ANY possible way it could hurt just a little bit less (without using numbing cream bcuz the artist I'm going to doesn't allow it)? I heard someone say to take some sort of painkiller but not ibuprofen bcuz it thins your blood or something like that? I'm not sure but please helppp
