ELI5: Jalisco violence follows killing of El Mencho
I've looked at a handful of news stories and--maybe it's too recent--but I'm not seeing the deep dive I need on why the killing of a druglord has led to specifically *widespread* violence in Jalisco.
I have friends with family in Mexico, so I understand (a little) about how economics and the dominance exerted by cartels are connected.
But ... and this is where I may be naive ... but ... aren't crimelords universally reviled? I don't think this is a cinematic situation where they're doing bad things to ultimately benefit the underprivileged in the community. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
I'd appreciate any insight, as well as recommendations for resources for educating myself further on this complex issue.
