Minnesota pond

So I was trying to get an indoor aquarium but my parents are afraid it might explode?? ( idk why but what ever ) but I was wondering if I could maybe make an outdoor pond. Only problem is that im in what is essentially hell on earth. In my area of minnesota it is so hot in the summers where almost all water dries up. Fall is fine. Winter has gotten to negative 10 degrees freezing almost every warm water species. And in spring it is always stormy and windy potentially causing flooding for a pond. So any fish/protection suggestions?
