PVP Meta Snapshot 1.0 - It's a Predator Eat Predator World

General Discussion

Hello! And Welcome to the first PVP Meta Snapshot report. The goal of the report is to give a glimpse into high level arena, discuss champions, and try to help decrease the gap for anyone looking to advance in PVP since the biggest hurdle is knowledge. If you find this helpful, and wish to see more of this style content, let me know as I may consider a weekly report. Let's jump in!

It's a Predator Eat Predator World

While it's been a few months since Predator has arrived in Raid Shadow Legends, it would be a failure to not acknowledge how much of an impact he has had to the arena meta. So for the first report, I want to dedicate it to Predator, talk about how to counter him, and the way the meta has shifted around him. In future reports, the topics will not be so focused on one thing.

Power Picks

While Ash couldn't pick only 5 S tier mythicals for a tierlist, I will up him and pick 5 of the most influential champions in the arena meta this week.

Theodosia - It's not Galathir, it's not Marichka, my best reviver goes to Theodosia, bringing in the most annoying buff for meta damage dealers to deal with: unkillable.

She is the cornerstone of every team, bringing an insane 25% Speed aura in all battles, a full team cleanse + veil, and a full team revive with Unkillable. Not only does she have incredible survivability with the self-Stoneskin buff, but also makes it incredibly difficult for single target damage dealers (predator cough cough) to deal with your team.

Nais - No matter what new champions get added to this game, you can always count on Nais to remain an absolute powerhouse. Good damage on both forms with a block revive, survivability with the scaling passive, and reviving teammates left and right. It's no surprise that Nais makes the list.

Predator - The star of today's show, and the menace of everyone's arena matches. Can easily coinflip matches by evading lockout and wipe a team without breaking a sweat. We'll explore him in much more detail.

Krixia - A bit of a surprise for me seeing her appear in 80% of plat defenses, but after this week, it makes perfect sense. Lockout remains one of the strongest effects in PVP, and Krixia not only brings her own, but also can refresh ally cooldowns in her second form. Being a mythical, she also has the advantage of ignoring resistance unlike Fabian. In addition, the ability to apply Block Buffs also has gained a lot of value since it stops Total Guard stacks from being applied.

Lockout has also become more important with the arrival of the last of the 5: Solanar.

Solanar - With the Hero's Path this week granting all those lucky individuals who pulled him a 5-star soul, Solanar has been unleased upon the arena meta. If Mercurial didn't put debuffers down, Solanar sure dug their graves. If he isn't locked out, a random buff can suddenly turn into a 2 turn Stoneskin (3 with lasting gifts btw).

Hits insanely hard, obliterates teams with counterattacks, and can be very annoying to deal with. But that doesn't mean he is without counters, maybe a topic for another day.

Champion Highlight: Predator

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that not a single player hasn't thrown their phone in frustration after losing to Predator. What makes him insane is his passive Yaulja Cloak, giving him the ability to evade any effect 50% of the time before his first turn, and up to 60% of the time upon killing 3 enemies. This includes lockout, buff strip, crowd control, and damage. The cherry on the top is his ability to counterattack anytime his passive triggers, allowing him to score free kills to stack up his evade chance.

On top of that his high base HP gives him good survivability and damage, scaling his Combstick Throw to do insane amounts of damage and land a block revive on a key unit. Of course he also has a hard hitting AoE in his kit too, because why not? Predator can quickly become a one-man army under the right conditions, soloing teams as the last one standing.

Meta Corner: Speed is Dead?

It all wraps up to this as what I believe to be the warping meta caused by Predator. With time, champions has become faster and faster due to soul awakenings, HM FW glyphs, ascensions, etc. You might see Mariuses running around arena at 300-350 speed. Yet Predator is not built with speed in mind. Granted his base speed is significantly lowering (98 vs Marius's 110), Predators are built running around 200-250 speed, often sacrificing speed boots for HP% boots instead.

No, speed isn't dead, and going first is still very valuable (although average speeds have dropped as players are kitting their champs in newer, not as good Mercurial gear, but that is a topic for next week). Going first to lock out opponents will still win you games, and beat predator half of the time, but Predator brings us to an interesting fork in the road for nukers.

Stoneskin is still the common go to for giving nukers a bit of survival, and gives Predator a headache. But most nukers will outrun Predator, since Predator is purposefully built slower, causing them critically to lose their survivability, becoming squishy targets for Predator to stack his passive.

However, if Predator can't kill any champions on his first turn, he becomes a sitting duck. This gives us some options. The first is to throw away that lethal and stoneskin and don on the coolest new trend: 9pc Mercurial. This gives nukers extra survivability after their first turn, without having to necessarily sacrifice speed. But this comes at the cost of 25% ignore defense and can significantly decrease your nuker's damage output. Nukers in 9pc Mercurial also do not have the same survivability as Supports in 9 pc Mercurial either, since they usually still have to trade some speed for damage stats.

The second, and interesting option is to simply build your nukers to be slower than Predator. Have Predator take a turn before your nukers, watch Predator throw his spear at some stoneskin, and one-shot him on the backswing. Exchange those Arbiters and Shuzhens to supports who don't give turn meter; choose to go second versus Predator opponents. This is one of the reasons why Theodosia is in my top 5 picks, since she does not bring any turn meter increase in her kit (no turn meter increase also makes Solanar less scary but again, another topic). Granted, making nukers slower may mess up your arena teams, especially in Live Arena, where you are not guaranteed to match up against Predator, or choose to ban him. Build your nukers too slow and they may not get a turn either or ruin your speed tune.

So what champion in Stoneskin might still benefit by being built slow? Consider champions with strong passives such as Solanar, Mortu-Macaab, Leo, Arnorn, etc.

Slaying the Predator

Last but not least, I want to leave some tips on how to take down the predator and make your arena matches a bit less painful. In no particular order:

- 9pc Mercurial, nothing needs to be said there

- Ally attack, each individual ally's attack is rolled against Predator's passive and predator can only counterattack the Champion with the ally attack skill

- Going second, not giving him any free kills and keeping his evade chance at 0%

- UDK, ol trusty UDK can soak the counterattacks and the block revive, giving your team extra survivability

- Necrosis, if Predator is the last Champion alive, he will slowly bleed to death (especially effective if you have a support champ in Mercurial)

- Block Passive Skills, shut out his passive and go to town

- Be really tanky, no surprises there. Nais, Niamhe, Taras, etc can all take a hit and still survive (but if you are considering this you probably didn't need a guide in the first place, let's be honest)

Closing Out

If you made it this far, as always thank you for reading. I hope you found this helpful, possibly entertaining. If you want to see more of these reports, or have any feedback on how the report is structured, let me know. And if you have any questions about the meta, champions you have, or anything else, feel free to drop it down below, happy to reply.
