stuck in unhealthy workplace dynamics—help me
hi,
i’ve been seriously considering a job change, not because of the work itself, but because the environment has become emotionally exhausting.
i work in a place where personal dynamics have started affecting my mental peace. a close friendship at work turned competitive and tense after i grew close to a mutual colleague. there’s constant passive energy, subtle attention-seeking behavior, and unnecessary emotional stress in a space i have to be in every single day.
it’s not open drama, which makes it harder. it’s just ongoing tension that i’m expected to ignore and “act normal” around. over time, it’s started affecting my focus, motivation, and overall mindset toward work.
to make things more complicated, this colleague has become very close with my manager. i sometimes feel like conversations or situations get misrepresented, and it leaves me in an uncomfortable position where i can’t fully defend myself without escalating things. whether it’s intentional or not, it creates a power imbalance that makes the environment even more stressful.
i don’t want to quit impulsively, but i also don’t want to stay somewhere that drains me daily. i feel like a fresh environment might help me reset and grow without carrying this emotional baggage.
i’ve been applying through linkedin, naukri, and company portals but haven’t seen much traction. i’m starting to feel stuck and unsure if i’m approaching this the right way.
if anyone has advice on improving job search strategy, getting referrals, or standing out in applications, i’d really appreciate it.
thank you.
