Chapter 1
In the second year after Marcello Gallor led his men to expand his business in Colombia, dropped off a bundle at my door-a baby wrapped in a thick blanket.
Attached to the bundle was a short note.
“The turf war here is fierce, and Shanny and I are tied up. You live a fancy life at the estate, so I’m leaving Shanny and my child in your care.”.
“As long as you raise him well, when I return to Sicily, I’ll submit a request to Don Enzo. He’ll recognize you as my legitimate mistress and allow you to move into the Family’s main villa.”
I stood there frozen, staring down at the cold, lifeless infant in the blanket.
Five
years later, Marcello had swallowed every rival business whole.
Box after box of cash and jewelry was hauled into my house. He blocked my path in the hallway outside the guest lounge, his face radiant with triumph.
“Alé, everything in Colombia has finally stabilized. Don Enzo has agreed to promote me to underboss.
“Shanny may have been an escort, but she’s stood by me for years. She helped me escape danger more than once in Colombia-and she gave birth to my first heir. I owe her too much to keep her as a mere mistress.
“After I marry her, I’ll immediately report to the Family Council and make you my official mistress.”
When I remained silent, Marcello stepped closer, grabbed my hand, and said, “Alé, I know it’s unfair, considering you’ve waited here for so many years.
“But don’t worry, Shanny is sensible. When you become my mistress, I assure you she won’t look down on you.”
A shudder ran through me.
I yanked my hand free at once, pulled a handkerchief from my bag, and scrubbed the spot where he touched me as if it were covered in filth, my face showing pure disgust.
The man I belonged to was extremely possessive.

We had been married for five years, and I had only just managed to convince him to allow me a brief return home.
If he ever found out that another man had laid a hand on me, the consequences would be unthinkable.
Even someone ten times more powerful than Marcello wouldn’t dare provoke him-let alone
Marcello, who was still a nobody in the Family.
Marcello froze. “Alé, what are you doing?”
Then arrogance crept back into his expression.
“Well, everyone in Sicily knows about our engagement.”
“I left you waiting at the estate for years-of course people talked behind your back. It’s normal for you to throw a little tantrum.”
I wiped the spot until the skin flushed red, then lifted my head and met his gaze, mockery shining in my eyes.
“Marcello, how can you be so sure I’d marry someone like you?”
Marcello stiffened, and after a while, he let out a helpless laugh.
“Alright, Alé, I know you’re upset. But everyone in Sicily thinks you belong to me.
“You’ve waited for me for so long that you’ve turned into a spinster. Who else would want you, if not me?”
The confidence in his eyes was so absurd that it made me question what I had ever seen in him.
Back then, on the eve of our wedding, he’d chosen to lead a team to Colombia to expand the business.
Before leaving, he held the Family Bible in his hands and swore tearfully,
“Alessandra, I promise-when I return victorious, I’ll give you the grandest wedding in all of Sicily.”
I had believed him.
Then, a year later, a baby arrived-born to him and Shannon Gibson.
Only then did I realize he had taken Shannon with him all along. They had even exchanged rings

in an underground church in Bogotá, witnessed by their men.

Hatred surged through my chest as those memories resurfaced. I was just about to hurl a few cutting remarks when a sharp cry rang out nearby.
Inside the house, a figure dressed in pink was clutching a wailing child, looking flustered.
“Mommy! Mommy, help me!”
As I heard Damiano’s cries, my fury ignited.
I strode forward, slapped Shannon hard across the face, and ripped Damiano from her arms.
Shannon screamed. Just as she was about to fall, Marcello caught her and pulled her into his embrace.
She covered her cheek and sobbed.
“Marcello, I missed our child so much. But I was afraid Alessandra would be angry, so I sneaked in. I never expected our son wouldn’t even recognize me at all.”
I scanned the room, my face dark with unrestrained anger.
“Who allowed this woman to enter? How did the security get so lazy?? ”
“What if something happened to the future of the Family….”
Before I could finish, Marcello cut me off.
His
eyes widened in shock as he snapped, “Alessandra, Since when did you become so cruel?
“Did you forget Shanny is the child’s biological mother? She has every right to see him. You’ve only raised him for a few years as a favor to us.”
་་ Are you really trying to stop him from reuniting with his own mother?”
