My breakup story

I met her at the end of 2022. The moment I saw her, something shifted inside me. It felt like I was in a romantic movie — the way I walked, the way I looked at her, everything felt different. It was at a relative’s housewarming function.

When I got back home, I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking about her. So I called my cousin and asked for her details. He sent me her Instagram profile. I requested to follow her and somehow managed to sleep.

The next day, not only did she accept my request, she also texted me asking how I found her account. That’s how it started. We began talking. As days passed, we shared personal things and eventually planned a date. That was one of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced. She was so nice. Everything about her felt perfect to me. I fell in love deeply. I can still remember exactly how I felt during that time.

After some time, I told her that I was in love with her. To my surprise, she said she felt the same. We officially got into a relationship.

Time passed. I was finishing college while she was in her first year at a different college. After I graduated, she moved into her second year. Our relationship was strong. We never had serious fights.

But near the end of our second year together, we had a small fight. I was going through stress about my future and what to do next in life. Because of that pressure, I made a mistake — I told her I needed some space.

Almost immediately, I regretted it. I felt terrible. I kept thinking, “What am I doing? She’s the love of my life. I can’t live without her.” But she was deeply hurt that I asked for space.

When I tried to contact her again, everything had changed. Her texts were dry. When I called, she sounded uninterested. I apologized many times. I told her it was my mistake and that I couldn’t live without her. Then she said something that completely shocked me — she said this relationship wasn’t going to work.

Before that, we hadn’t even had serious fights. I thought maybe she was just angry and that once her anger faded, things would go back to normal. I waited. No texts. No calls.

I got desperate. I went to her college for five days straight trying to meet her, but she refused every time. That’s when I realized it was really over. The girl I knew would never have treated me like that.

I was destroyed. This was the girl I wanted to spend my life with. Every moment we shared felt real. She made me believe she wanted the same future.

Days passed. I stopped calling because she wouldn’t pick up, and even when she did, she spoke rudely. I thought maybe giving her space would fix things. It didn’t.

I was devastated, blaming myself for ruining something beautiful over a small mistake. It ate me from the inside. I even had dark thoughts because I couldn’t handle the pain.

Three weeks later, a friend called me asking if something had happened between us. He studied at her college and said he saw her often with another guy, riding on his motorcycle. She was never the type to go around like that before. I felt shocked and betrayed.

I called her and asked if she ended our relationship because of him. She only said, “It’s not going to work out.” I said a few things, she said sorry, and cut the call. That was the last time we spoke.

Later, I kept hearing that she was always with that same guy — talking, walking together. Eventually, I found out something that completely broke me: people said they had been in a relationship for almost one and a half years — even before we broke up.

Hearing that shattered me. The person I thought was my everything, the person I imagined my future with — I couldn’t believe she could do that.

After the breakup, I lost a lot of weight. I stopped feeling like myself. Before the relationship, I was a happy person. I enjoyed life, hung out with friends, did my own things. Now everything feels dull. I fake smiles outside, but inside I feel empty.

It’s been a year now, but I still miss the old version of myself — the happy, confident person I used to be.

Sometimes I wonder if there’s a way to go back to who I was before all this happened
