Navigating distance before dating

I’ve been talking to this really great guy for about 4 weeks now. We’ve gone on 6 or 7 dates now, with each date increasingly becoming more intimate. I feel really at ease with him, and he’s the first guy I’ve talked to in a long time who I actually see myself dating. Although it’s heated up quickly, he left for a month long trip to Hawaii yesterday, and I’m struggling thinking about what the next month will look like.

We don’t text super often, but our dates have been truly incredible. We squeezed in one last dinner on Friday and he left Saturday. I felt that Friday was a good opportunity to bring up possibly dating. He mentioned not being ready, to which I admitted I don’t think it’s a good idea for us to start dating right before he leaves for a month. Alas, we didn’t start dating and now he’s gone.

Since we’ve met, we haven’t texted a bunch day-to-day - we both agreed that we aren’t big “texters.” He did mention wanting to FaceTime while he’s gone, which we haven’t done before. With this in mind, does anyone have advice for navigating this next month while he’s gone? We hung out 3 days out of the last week before we left and those three dates felt like we were dating - I guess my fear is that because neither of us are constantly on our phones that we could easily start thinking the other person isn’t interested over the next month while he’s away. I feel like I’m getting in my head about how often I should be reaching out 😕
