So it’s a newer to me 2017 Ram 2500 4x4. Previous owner seems like he just worked it and didn’t really go thru anything unless it was absolutely needed.

I’ve been having a “thump” or “clunk” coming from the driver side when going over bumps. Had some parts from my ‘24 that I just used to replace parts since I upgraded those on that truck and had them laying around. Things like sway bar, track bar and shocks. Just changed driver wheel bearing, upper and lower ball joints. I’ve done things one at a time to see if anything eliminates it or makes drastic changes. All of the above mentioned definitely Tightened things up but I’m still getting the clunk. Axle u-joint seems good and don’t think I’d get a clunking noise from that.

Sooo, I’m now thinking it’s either the radius arm bushing, tie rod, coil insulator/coil spring or the track bar hole was wallowed out and is moving in the bracket. It did have some wear when I replaced the bar but didn’t seem too bad, but I’m sure it would have an effect even with little play.

It drives straight with no vibrations that I can feel other than the odd clunk from the footwell/kick panel area when driving in town. Highway it’s not noticeable even going over expansion joints and stuff. I’ve tried to narrow down when exactly it happens but haven’t been able to really pinpoint the exact movement of the suspension/truck to get a good grasp on what causes it. Noticed it will do it when front end comes down off a “speed table” or “speed hump” that we’ve had a bunch put in near me.

Haven’t found much or any info regarding radius arm bushing replacements from my searching. Wondering if anybody has had a knock that wasn’t solved with front end work?

Random thump/clunk at city driving speed.
