Boss is ALWAYS on vacation😩
Hello ya’ll I haven’t used Reddit in a while but I really need some perspective and some advice/support. The job market in Canada is really bad and I was looking for this part-time job after I finished summer because I’m still a full time student at university.
Fast forward I started working at this place that is a family owned business in a field that makes ALOT of money….The problem is I originally signed up for this administration position but im doing things outside of that that required me to learn new skills CONSTANTLY and to make matters worse, the boss is LITERALLY on vacation every 2 weeks or so the whole time I’ve been here. Literally like he’s only present 1/2 a month. Because he is away so often, he keeps teaching me how to do his job while he is away , and trains me to do other stuff (posting catalogues, photoshopping pieces, teaching me how to use machines, and other highly elaborating stuff outside of my main function) and adds to my task but he doesn’t even upgrade my pay. When I serve customers they are always shocked to see me go from being to the reception to jumping to the consultation office and seeing me roam and appear everywhere because I do so many things at once.
There’s also 3 other employees there who have been there for 30 years and they never got a pay raise and seem to be the submissive type to never raise a voice or concern or stand up for themselves. I worked numerous jobs in other sectors and I was payed much more for doing much less. Since he’s away we literally take care of his whole , my coworkers are highly stressed because of the amount of work and customers they need to serve, and while he’s gone they constantly need to text him and be in contact because they have no clue what to do.
To make matters worse, I’m the youngest employee there and the older women feel threatened by me because I learned how to do their job very fast and have been passive aggressive with me and hate it when customers praise.
I feel like I’m being exploited, I’m doing things that require me to have numerous types of diplomas and certifications and I’m being payed a few buck above entry level wages. I should make commissions for the things I buy from clients but I don’t even get . My mental has declined when I see my boss who’s not even there half the time be able to afford so much from his employes back who run his whole business at this point, while he keeps boasting about making almost 100k a day.
The good news is I have been applying to other positions in my field of studies and have gotten interviews set for this week so hopefully I leave this hellhole I’m in. Please send me positive affirmations and let me know in the comments if anyone has ever dealt with such a toxic environment because I feel those old people at work act like it’s all normal.
