FINALLY diagnosed at 43

Diagnosis

I always felt something was off w me. Literally since I was a child. So much where looking back I totally had adhd but no one ever thought anything of my school struggles or behavior. Fast forward to 2019-2020. Covid. A friend of my partners moved in and my partner said I was exactly like him…. His friend is a white male, dx w adhd in third grade. Me- a Latina who grew up on the outskirts of a wealthy school and town. No one cared about me or my struggles. No one looked out, helped or worried about me. We were just surviving. Anyways.

So in 2019-2020 started the process to get dx. First dx w GAD and MDD. they told me I couldn’t get the assessment for adhd until my anxiety was under control. After trying several medications and lots of health issues not related to the meds…Paxil was what helped decrease anxiety and symptoms of ptsd.

I thought it was my dad. He had lots of issues and was so dysfunctional. But went on a trip w my mom and realized it was her. She had undiagnosed adhd. I noticed my aunt did too.

My sibling was dx last year. Another sibling refuses to acknowledge she and her son have it

I feel so validated, vindicated, that I’m finally diagnosed. I don’t feel like I’m “crazy” or stupid.

I have high blood pressure so I was prescribed guanfacine. I’m waiting for it to arrive in the mail Anyone take Paxil and guanfacine?
