Migraines made me realize that my support system was a façade

25M got diagnosed over a year ago. I had 20+ migraines a day. Lost my job. The support system I thought I could rely on was not actually much of a support system and downplayed and minimized me at every step of the way. Eventually after several failed medications, insurance denials, paying out of pocket for failed medications, being told I was doing the wrong thing by people who wouldn't lift a finger to book an appointment or argue with insurance for me while I was in pain, I was about ready to eat a bullet.

One day, laying in bed, I decided I was either going to die or going to at least try a hail mary. I drove in massive pain to Mexico, stocked up on a bunch of meds that are expensive in the US but cheaper down there and got a Botox injection by a neurologist down there. The hail mary worked and I'm actually on a treatment plan now that includes Botox that got my migraines to a manageable <5 a month. I got a new job and am starting nursing school so my finances are in order again.

What have I learned though? The people I thought were solid in my life were incredibly cruel the moment I became useless, disabled. Heaven forbid I have a good day, then I'm just faking my illness. I'm no longer sexually attracted to my girlfriend because when I was in pain, she made feel bad for not being able to have sex with her. I kinda wanna rip it all away and start fresh.
