Bro code question: just found out a close friend of 25 years chose to do business with another person instead of me. Am I wrong to be a little bummed?
My friend Jeff and I have been friends through a LOT. Single years, dating years, now we’re both married. We text frequently over big and small stuff and do catch-up lunches prob once every three months. We invite each other to various parties throughout the year — birthdays, dinner parties, pool parties, summer bbqs, etc. Professionally though, our lives rarely cross — he’s in show business, I’m in real estate. I just found out he listed and sold his house AND bought something else without even mentioning any of it to me. Absolutely not upset I didn’t get asked to represent him in either transaction, but more hurt that he didn’t even mention to me that he was thinking of doing this. If it was professional loyalty to another person, I’d 10000% understand but would have at least wanted a quick courtesy heads up before hand — “hey bro i know you and I go back a long time but i have a long-standing professional relationship with this other person, I hope you understand” — which of COURSE I’d respect and support. I guess I’m just hurt to be ghosted on this entire transaction?? Is it just poor manners on his part? Am I being unrealistically butthurt? What’s the bro code here. I haven’t said anything yet or reached out or anything. Just stewing a little bit.
