Everything I would fix if I could redo high school
- GRADES MATTER!! keep your grades up and know your limits. It's good to challenge urself but not to the point where you could've gotten As when you got Bs. I quite literally remember thinking to myself that getting an A in an AP class was too much work and I should focus more on my ECs. I also remember that I hated that my parents would pressure me about studying so I would "rebel" by not doing my work. KEEP UR GRADES UP! Trust me, it will hurt you in the long wrong if u don't.
- Explore different fields and it's okay to keep an open mind! My parents kind of narrowed down my scope into only going into computer science and now it's the second semester of senior year were I discovered that I have interest in civil engineering. Honestly, not the end of the world but I wish I kept my options open to other engineering disciplines especially during my freshman year of high school. I thought my life would end and I wouldn't get into any college if I didn't decide what I wanted to do with my life from day 1 of high school which is 100% not true. There are so many different fields I know now and I wish I took the time to actually find them sooner.
- Keep your ECs consistent and actually put effort into these! I made the mistake of not doing this and then during my junior year of high school I was cramming doing so many ECs because I was scared that I wouldn't have enough. Just keep doing the things you're interested in and build impact around it. I would literally rot in my bed the whole weekend when I could have been doing something to actively help my community like volunteering.
- TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH! I cannot literally stress this enough. While I'll admit during my freshman and sophmore year I could've done so much more for myself academically and activity wise, I was happy. During my junior year, as I said, I started cramming everything and it honestly detioreted my mental health, I lost most of my friends, and I genuinely hated everything. Do not be like me and talk to your friends, give some time to urself, get a boyfriend/girlfriend, and spend time with your family.
