Shed building query
Loction: South East Melbourne
Soil type: M
Easement type: 150mm Sewer pipe (3.14-3.29m deep) and 1.3m off the back fenceline
Shed size: will be either 8m x 5m x 3.5m (peak height gable style) or 6m x 4.5m x 3.6m (peak height gable style)
Hi all,
Im hoping to build a shed for the purpose of a golf sim and if its the bigger option of the 2 above ill also have a little bit of a gym too otherwise the smaller shed will be soley a golf sim.
Due to backyard space (i have about 10m x 12.5m) im waiting to put a shed in the back corner of the property. There is an easment there so i know i would need a building permit and also a build over easement permit.
Im trying to keep the shed build as cheap as possible so ill DIY as much as i can. in simple, based on the 6.1.4. Lightweight structure section it says i can build in the easement as long as im 600mm to the side of the sewer drain (doesnt mention anything about depth of footings or piers).
Im pretty comfortable with the building permit side of things for the shed with the drawings and engineering of the actual shed. My main questions are around the foundation. Based on the easement policy it will need to be footings of some sort and either a non-structural slab or steel/timber based on top of the footings.
- Will i need someone to engineer the footings/piers or can i just over-estimate it and include in the building permit?
- Do shed companies provide engineering for the foundation/footings or whatever you go with or just the actual shed itself?
- If i get the engineering will the actual job of the pour and all that be something i can do myself?
- Will footings be enough for either of the shed options im looking at or will it need to be deeper piers?
If anyone has gone through this process and would like to chat to me about it i would absolutely love that otherwise any help would be great!
Here is the build over easement stuff if anyone wants to look in more detail:
