sell vs donate math that finally clicked for me

been decluttering all month and kept going back and forth on whether to list stuff on marketplace or just drop it off. finally sat down and did the actual math

if you itemize and youre in the 22% bracket, a $100 donation saves you $22 in taxes. sounds small until you add it all up. last year i probably dropped off like 2k worth of stuff at goodwill. thats $440 back just for... not dealing with lowballers lol

obviously if something is worth a lot you should still sell it. but for the random clothes and kitchen stuff? way easier to just donate and track it properly

the key is actually writing down what you donate. irs can ask for proof and nobody remembers what they dropped off 8 months ago
