Buying vs renting snorkeling gear

We hit Costco during our last trip and she they sold some decent sets of snorkeling gear. We chose to rent but are now considering heading to Costco to buy some for our next trip. Anyone know if they always sell those sets at Costco or if they are a seasonal item. Also anyone have any other reca to purchase on island or just buy on Amazon and bring it?
