Cancel semester 2 diplomas for Alberta high school students
Alberta high school students are facing an unfair double standard this year: while Semester 1 diploma exams were canceled due to lost instructional time and disruption from the teacher strike, Semester 2 students are still expected to write high-stakes exams that can significantly impact their final grades, university acceptance, and scholarships. We are all part of the same graduating class, yet we are being evaluated under different rules, which is simply not equal or just. Students should not be penalized for circumstances beyond their control, especially after an already stressful and unstable school year. Canceling Semester 2 diploma exams would restore fairness, protect students’ mental health, and ensure that everyone is assessed on the same basis.
