Will I hate driving a Lightning?
I’m very seriously considering buying a Lightning, but I’m not sure if it’s a good fit for me. My work commute is 70 miles, round trip. It’s basically all flat ground and mostly freeway/highway that I would average a driving speed between 60-70 mph. I know that’s not a problem, even with an SR Lightning. However, it routinely gets WINDY where I live. It’s not unusual for us to have winds of 15-25 mph and for about a month or so every spring there will be multiple days with sustained winds of 25+ mph and gusts up to 4O mph, or more.
Additionally, I would level the truck and put 33”ish tires on it (I can’t stand the look of the wheels that come on these things) and I know that would substantially reduce efficiency as well.
The only plus side to this is that the heavy wind would be at my back for half of the commute, which should help some.
Am I going to be miserable in this scenario? I’m curious to know what kind of realistic range I would be looking at. FWIW, I would install a level 2 charger in my garage and electricity is cheap here ($0.11 per kWh).
