The gold value chain, why you pay more than the gold spot price?
A gold coin in your hand has traveled a long way:
-
Mining (5-15 years, billion-dollar investments)
-
Gold (1-2g gold per ton of rock)
-
Gold purification (80-95% purity)
-
Minting (Refining to 999.9/1000)
-
LBMA Good Delivery (LBMA Good Delivery)
-
Minting (Mints)
-
Wholesale (Wholesale → Retail)
Each step incurs costs. The "markup" at the dealer isn't a rip-off, but rather the sum of this added value.
Price Comparison:
• 1 oz coin: 3-6% above spot price
• 100g bar: 2-4% above spot price
• 1kg bar: 1-2% above spot price
Anyone charging significantly less should raise questions.
