Preaching "forgiveness" usually has sexist undertones
I went to church recently after not going for 10ish years. The priest made sure to say, "Make sure you forgive others, or the Lord won't forgive you."
?? What? What kind of fucking Darvo shit is this? I genuinely felt like a phantom abusive boyfriend was giving me advice, and not even a smart one.
At some point, without being inflammatory, you can't genuinely believe me to think that you can be a regular church-goer and still be a fully-functioning human being. You shouldn't hear the above quote and see no problem whatsoever with it. It offers no legitimate, good faith guidance.
Normal people eventually forgive others over slights and moderate disputes, which brings me to the situations where people do struggle to forgive:
- Abuse
-Cheating
-Molestation
Child: "Hey god I'm a little sad and upset that Uncle Walter touched me."
God: "Well. If you do not FORGIVE Walter I will be mad at you too."
The only people I can see realistically repeating the quote are genuine abusers, Who else needs to say such weird shit to get forgiveness?
The theme of "forgiveness" is present across all Christian sectors, and yeah. No wonder so many women date abusive men if they're given messages like these. Forced "forgiveness" is also clinically unhelpful to people but that's another issue
