Thinking of going low/no contact with my mother
I (23F) have been thinking of cutting ties with my (50F) mother because of how exhausted she makes me.
I’ve been thinking about it since I can remember, since she abuses alcohol heavily and has taken the pain of her life out my brothers and I, mainly me.
Now, she’s said numerous things to me like how I’m a horrible daughter, a horrible sister, that “I’m just like my father”, and how “I’m not shit”. But the straw that broke the camel’s back is when she said “I hope he doesn’t want it, so that way you’ll know what it feels like.”
For context, she blew up at me over Netflix because I said I wanted to watch a show on it, but too many people were on. Which was fine, because I was already watching something else and I’ll watch my show at a later time.
It usually goes in one ear and out the other because I’ve heard her spiel so many times, I could recite it word by word. But then, she says something that wounds me more than I’d like to admit.
“I hope he doesn’t want it, so that way you’ll know what it feels like. That’s going to be your karma.”
Then she proceeded to say “fuck you and fuck your brothers”.
This was back in October 2025 and I’m still not over what she said, and I don’t think I’ll ever be over it. I’m not over my own mother practically saying she wants my karma to be me ending up a single mom, like she was, so I’ll know what it feels like. How do you get over that?
There’s more things she’s done but the post will be too long, and there’s a LOT so it’s a miracle I’m still in contact with her.
I’m coming to the realization that I don’t want to be dealing with this (her) when I’m in my 30s, 40s, 50s and so on. I’m already so exhausted and angry at her at 23 years old, so I can’t imagine what I’ll feel like if this continues when I’m older.
