Welfare fraud investigation letter.
Hello.
I received a welfare fraud investigation letter.
Ended up getting a horrible disease and got on food assistance in California. My disease has completely ruined my life and has affected me where I was experiencing horrible physical symptoms most of the day. So bad I basically couldn't even talk to people when my symptoms were really bad Just to give context.
I run a small business and had one employee at the time business was extremely slow when I got this disease hence the reason why I applied for EBT was basically literally scared for my life scared about not having resources and being in the bad state I was in. Over the course of the year business picked up and my employee was working. Most of the money brought in went to business expenses. I can say probably on average over half of the year my net could have been maybe like 1500 bucks.
I think this is being investigated for two years. Both years my employee was still working when the season got busy. This whole time I'm just basically try and do survive cover any bills that I have Just trying to stay afloat and hoping that I figure out what the heck is wrong with me with my disease trying to survive.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago I received the letter of the investigation. I never knew about reporting income until maybe a few months ago when they lowered my benefit amount by $100 and I called in to find out why then they explained it and that's when I found out about reporting any additional monies received.
Has anybody experienced a situation like this. I did not intentionally commit fraud. I did the recertifications at the end of the year to the best of my ability given my physical state.
Would love to hear anybody's insight on what they think I might be expecting to happen.
I'm absolutely fully compliant with anything that is needed for the investigation.
Thank you.
