**EL SAPO**

Hugo Gonzalo Mendoza Gaytán, who is known by the aliases “El 090” and “El Sapo”, is a high-level CJNG figure.

In 2007, he and his older brother Abundio were involved in the murder of a local drug dealer in Fresno, California. After the homicide, they fled back to Mexico and eventually they joined up with the CJNG.

In 2012, El 090’s older brother and parents were arrested for drug dealing and kidnapping for ransom schemes.

His brother was sent to prison, which allowed El 090 to inherit his position in the CJNG.

El 090 was known to have formed armed wing known as Comando 090. He was eventually promoted to plaza boss of Puerto Vallarta - a highly sought after position.

Writer Jorge Fernandez Menendez claims that throughout 2019 there was a power struggle between El 090 and Mencho’s stepson El 03, who both vied to become Mencho’s successor.

It seems that El 090 ultimately lost this struggle and La Firma replaced El 090 as plaza boss of Vallarta by January 2020.

El 090 was reassigned to the Altos region of Jalisco, where he formed a new armed wing named Grupo Elite Delictivo de Reacción Inmediata, which is shortened to “GEDDRI”.
