Student's Questions

Hello! I am an ASU freshman majoring in finance, currently standing with a 4.0 gpa

Though it is early, I feel really behind as I’ve not done anything meaningful to uplift my career, I tried applying to Scholars of Finance (A non profit finance society or whatever) but got declined each semester

I want to pivot into corporate finance or wealth management especially

My goal was to try to get a random bank job or internship over the summer but I recently got a job as a busser at a fine dining restaurant, Din Tai Fung, and I’m not sure if I should commit to that or try for something finance related (this would be my 4th part time on my job history though)

I understand this field is all about networking and I’m especially worried because even though I’m not planning for careers in like IB or HF or whatever, I do want to succeed in wealth management as a FA, but ASU also isn’t a target school so I’m not sure how that applies.

I talked to a lot of seniors and most haven’t even secured an internship yet so I’m worried about competition.

Perhaps I’ll just say I began studying for the SIE over the summer as I worked my part time?

(Also side note, what are your thoughts on Financial advising or Wealth-management as a career? Is it solid in this day and age?)
