Hollanov children names

Before I start, I didn’t know what flair to use, so if this isn’t the right one let me know and I can change it.

So I’ve been playing with the idea of maybe trying to write a fic for Heated Rivalry (I’ve only written for 4 fandoms before but three of those are canonically in the same universe so it’s more like 2).

I love the idea of Shane and Ilya as parents (yeah I know, not original). My question is regarding last names if they have girls. I know Russia tradition would have their last name as Rozanova not Rozanov, but in a lot of the fics I’ve been reading, they have daughters that have the masculine form of the name. Is this because people writing aren’t aware of Russian name traditions or because they feel like Ilya and Shane (mostly Ilya because that’s his part of their name) are trying to Americanize (in this case Canadianize their names)? Or maybe because he’s trying to distance himself from the country that refuses to allow him to safely love who he loves?

Also, thoughts on how they would decide which name would go first? Hollander-Rozanov(a) vs Rozanov(a)-Hollander?

I’m kind of a language nerd, do this stuff is interesting to me. And I’ve also been toying with the idea of boy-girl twins so that’s making me think about names even more.
