Did anyone else choose a name from a different language or culture?
Hi everyone!
I know it's a bit of an odd question, but I’ve had this question on my mind for a while and I’d love to hear your thoughts. I’m 19, MtF, and I chose my first name from a language that isn't my own (though my middle name is in my native language).
I’ve been feeling a bit self-conscious about it lately, and I guess I just want to know if I’m the only "weirdo" who made this choice or if it's more common than I think!
Whether your name comes from Russian, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, or anywhere else—did any of you go outside your own culture to find the right fit?
I’d love to hear your stories about how you chose your name!
P.S. The name I chose is Mizuki, and my middle name is Abril. I love how they sound together, but since Mizuki isn't from my culture, I'm afraid people might misinterpret my reasons for choosing the name. This isn't about cultural appropriation; it's about the literal, emotional meaning and the connection I feel with my favorite character.
