After more than 20 years since their debut album, Thoughts And Notions gives one of their hidden gems, “Strength I Need (20th Anniversary Edition)”, a refresh and the spotlight it deserves. When the song was originally released, it was sidelined for radio-friendly singles, but modern digital streaming has removed those old limitations and allows every song to shine.

The song grew from a deeply personal prayer: the band’s frontman visualized being present at Christ’s crucifixion to get a better understanding of the greater plan behind His suffering, and at the same time, he was struggling with his own faith. The first verse asks, “Are you tired of what life has offered?” and in the chorus we hear the plea: “You’re the strength I need.” What started as a quiet dialogue with Christ became a song for anyone who is carrying a heavy and unyielding cross.

Wilbert beautifully wrapped up the heart of this song with the following lyrics: *“It’s in your actions I find my own strength // It’s in your words that I hear my own voice // It’s in your life I see the way I should live mine.”*

Have you ever tried to get through hardships on your own, only to burn out? This song invites you to instead lean on Christ’s love and example. Go ahead and give this song a listen. May it remind you that you are never alone in your struggles.
