Anime With Similar Monster/Alien Designs To The EVAs And Angels From NGE (Classic)

Looking for stuff that has creatures that share similar designs to the fleshy, semi-mechanical surrealist designs of NGE. The surrealism and weirdness of many of the designs is super important, otherwise I’d just look at Kaijus haha.

Any suggestions? I’d prefer older, pre-2000s stuff but if it fits then anything works.
