Are the Steam ports of the GBA/DS games the best versions? Would they appeal to a SotN fan?

I’ve played SotN twice and love it, but I’m blind to the games after. How much are they like SotN? Are they considered to be just as good?

And most importantly, are the Steam ports the best versions of each game? I don’t care if it’s more readily available- I don’t mind getting ahold of the originals. But are the ports improved or at all different, or basically just ports of the originals? And would these interest me if I want more SotN?
