I have DID, but I don't think the 'memories' of what might have caused my DID are quite real, not sure how to process it
As the title says I still believe that I have DID, but I really don't think that my memories associated with my DID and how I developed it are real, not to say it's impossible but it just doesn't really seem likely.
I didn't as far as I remember have anyone in my life that could have done that or would have ever even been a person like that, nor can I even remember the face or features of the person who 'did it'.
It feels like sunk-cost fallacy thing, almost as though I've created the idea of this trauma and attached myself so much to it that now I view as a fundamental part of who I am, so to deny it is to deny who I am to some extent, but I really don't think it happened.
When I tell myself it didn't happen I get very dissociated, but it also feels like it's in such a way that it's due to the cognitive dissonance, rather than an actual experience if that makes any sense.
Also I haven't even reacted strongly to those memories other than dissociation or just repeating no over and over and trying to avoid thinking about, which feels like it makes sense given how horrifying the contents of that imagined scenario would be.
I'm not sure how to move forward with this, in that case I don't even know what caused my DID, or maybe I might be wrong about that too.
