Need selecting a region in the the Purépecha Plateau, Michoacán, Mexico, for a Virology research facility an adjacent town for my horror fiction. Help would be appreciated

Good night.

I’m currently developing a horror fiction story set in Michoacán, Mexico, in the Purépecha Plateau, centered around an abandoned virology research facility built near a deserted city to house the personal.

The project draws from inspiration from book series like Roadside Picnic by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, and Metro 2033 by Dmitry Glukhovsky and S.D. Perry´s Resident Evil novels.

I’m looking for advice for the location of in the Purépecha Plateau, Michoacan, or somewhere nearby, where I can put a research center and town, for the personal, what feels believable and doesn't offend anyone. The story will contain biological horror and monsters. Help from people in the region would be most appreciated.

Any insight would be helpful a lot and be appreciated.
